Brebeuf Girls Fall Just Short in Track

Greg Coleman '19, OpEd Editor

The Brebeuf Girls Track and Field team fell just short of earning their fifth straight indoor state title in a row for classes 1A, 2A, and 3A.  There were excellent individual performances by a few familiar faces. UNC commit Semira Killebrew’ 19 ran a 7.42 and gained first place in the 60m dash in a final that included three other Brebeuf Sprinters including Brooklyn Chestnut’ 20, Hanna Hearn’ 19, and Alex Ezell’ 19.  There were multiple top 5 finishes from the girls long distance groups as well in the 4×800 meter relays and the 3200m runs. The 4x200m relay gained first at State and the 4x400m relay of Ezell, Chestnut, Alexis Dillard’ 22, and Killebrew gained first in their heat and placed in the top 5 overall.  The field events however belonged to the eventual State Champ West Lafayette Red Devils. The boys had outstanding performances by Jack Kovach’ 20 and Mitchell Amstutz’ 19, and the 4×200 meter relay gained first place in their heat. Myles Clark’ 19 got fifth place in the 60m hurdles. The state champs were Westview.
