You have probably noticed that many of the pine and ash trees disappeared around the outside of the school. For the pine trees in the front, many were removed because they were dying, diseased, or already dead. For the ash trees in the woods behind the school, many were invaded by the emerald ash borer species. As a result, over 110 trees were cut down back there.
Fortunately for our community, Brebeuf has reached out to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which is seeking to help us rebuild the natural ecosystem surrounding the property. After talking to Mrs. Eades and Mr. Miller on this subject, they informed me that the DNR and an environmental company called Eco Logic are putting together a plan to help our woods reach a point where it can sustain itself. To do this, invasive species like the emerald ash borer must be exterminated and the downed trees must be collected and removed.
